CONCEPT
The Guitar Fret Press System is constructed from high quality materials including oak, stainless steel and aluminium.
In addition to the functions of the press, the design considerations include comfortable working height, maximum guitar support, stability in use and a secure hold down position for the workstand. The construction is robust and the assembled system weighs approximately 18kg / 40lbs.
The system is designed for pressing all fret positions on solid body guitars and can also be utilised for frets on acoustic guitars along the supported section of the neck - typically up to the 12th fret.
The overall base dimensions are 600mm diameter x 450mm wide. The rounded ends help with orientation on the bench for the best working position. The fret press can be positioned at the rear when not in use and the workstand docked outside the press for easier access.

FRET PRESS SYSTEM
The included fret press is fitted with an adjustable height press beam. The distance between the supporting posts is 360mm for spanning the upper bout or horns.
The screw press mechanism is mounted at the centre of the beam. The press screw pitch is 1.5mm and typically a single turn of the handle is required to press the fret into position after initial fret pressure is met.
The beam height is adjustable and secured to the posts by locking screws at each side.
FRET PRESS CAULS
The system includes a full set of cauls:
Stainless Steel Flat Cross Section (10 piece set) - 7.25", 9.5", 10", 12", 14", 15", 16", 17", 20" & Flat.
The cauls have a flat cross section/fret contact face. This affords easy seating on the fret and allows a small degree of angular and radial misalignment between the tool and guitar.
MODULAR GUITAR SUPPORT STAND
The included modular workstand comprises of a solid oak base fitted with a raised neck caul and mounting holes for the guitar body supports. The stand supply includes support pads at each end for free standing use (these are removed when the stand is used in the press).
NECK SUPPORT CAUL
The design is based around a fixed height neck caul with adjustment of the guitar body height to suit. This provides a consistent support height of the guitar neck in the press.
The caul is 250mm (10") long, made from hardwood and covered with soft cork. The caul features a ‘C shape profile for locating the guitar neck. The shallow profile centralises the neck whilst maintaining good access at the sides of the fretboard.
SOLID BODY GUITAR SUPPORT
Optimum support is provided underneath the heel/neck join for solid body guitars.
Both height and angle of the body support are adjustable via independent screw jacks. Adjustment is made by turning each screw until the body angle is found and the neck is seated along the caul. The unit is locked in position via clamp knobs on each post.
UNIVERSAL/ACOUSTIC GUITAR BODY SUPPORT
The universal/acoustic guitar body support features a shallow concave shape for the guitar back to rest onto.
Fine adjustment of height is made by rotating the support pad on the central screw to bring the guitar neck horizontal along the caul. Different guitar body sizes are accommodated by utilising the oak spacing blocks and inserting these underneath the screw block assembly as required.
The universal support is not suitable for pressing solid body guitars but can be used for general setups and guitar maintenance on solid body guitars when outside of the press.
BASE & SUB-BASE/EXTENSION
The press base features an 18mm thick treated marine ply board, equipped with locking clamps and centralising blocks for secure operation. This allows the workstand to be guided and clamped centrally underneath the press and the small sub-base/extension table provides additional support during transitions.
The main base is secured over the bottom member of the press with heavy duty 8mm diameter countersunk allen screws. Adjustable feet are fitted to support the base at the outer corners. The extension table is fitted with rubber feet and is butted against the edge of the board and positioned to suit.
